Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has called on leaders and residents of Kanungu District to embrace unity, cooperation, and forgiveness as key drivers of development in the district and the wider Kigezi sub-region.
Mbabazi made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking as Guest of Honour at the swearing-in ceremony of District Chairperson Francis Byamukama Kapesha, Speaker Frank Byaruhanga, and newly elected councilors at the Kanungu District Council Hall.
The event attracted political, religious, and community leaders from across the district.
Mbabazi congratulated the newly elected leadership and urged them to set aside political differences in order to improve service delivery and accelerate transformation.
He emphasized that unity among leaders is critical for effective lobbying for government programs and attracting development projects to the area.
“Recently I held discussions with Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and ICT and National Guidance Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi on securing regional markets and promoting value addition for minerals in Kanungu District, particularly iron ore, to attract investors and industries,” Mbabazi said.
He added that coordinated leadership efforts could help accelerate industrial development in the Kigezi sub-region, create employment opportunities, and improve household incomes.
“Leaders are planning to advance the Kigezi sub-region through collective lobbying and teamwork, and unity among leaders will help us establish more industries and create employment opportunities for residents,” he noted.
Mbabazi also commended the people of Kanungu for their continued political support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, saying it would help ensure continued delivery of government development programs in the district.
He encouraged the new leadership to prioritize cooperation, stability, and inclusive governance as they begin their term of office.
